The amenities block contains toilets, washbasins and showers, both with hot and cold water supply. The kitchen area includes facilities for cooking, refrigeration and dishwashing as well as a separate dining/common room area.

Lazy Duck's Camping Ground
Nethy Bridge, Inverness-shire, PH25 3ED
Tele: +44 (0) 1479 821642 - Email:

The Guardian, May 2007 "The Lazy Duck's bush shower is a defiant stand against the British climate! - an outdoor solar-heated experience - but the sauna is more relaxing . . . who says camping can't be romantic?"
'The Perfect Pitch' Sunday Times May 2007
"TOP 5 - PICK OF THE PITCHES" 2007 Cool Camping Scotland

In the 1890’s the ground around the Lazy Duck was used as a stopover for clansmen bringing their horses from Lochaber on the west coast through Badenoch and Strathspey to the Inverness Wool Fair on the east. The Wool Fair saw the largest annual gathering of horses for sale north of Perth.

The MacDonalds camped with their horses tethered here amongst the old Caledonian pine trees for many years before building the original cottage and settling with their families in the early 1900’s. Now there is just the one horse here, Tamara, and she is definitely not for sale!

Campers with or without a horse are welcome once again and since the autumn of 2002 and the opening of the Speyside Way we have been having anything up to 4 one, two or three-man tents for 3 or 4 nights. Campers have the use of a flush toilet and washbasin, hot and cold water washing-up space, a hot water 'bush shower', wet weather cooking shelter, chimenea fire, and free range eggs when available.

For children helping to feed the ducks or collect hens eggs there is the added surprise of seeing the grown ups with the bow-saw preparing timber for tonight's barbeque where, they know, there will be toasted marsh mallows for 'afters' .

Meanwhile, there's the adventure swing, not to mention the hammock hidden in the heather and reached only by the bold and the brave via a secret path dedicated to little people

When they travel with you on their own or on locally hired bikes the forest tracks are easily covered and many new discoveries made. On nearby waters too, grown ups and children kayak and sail or just get plain wet in the fun area of the nearby forest theme park or giant new-look swimming pool.

Then there is always the Lazy Duck for you and your party to return to in the late afternoons to prepare for the evening's feast you will enjoy making together. Its the kind of place you thought didn't exist anymore . . .

Sorry, no dogs on account of resident waterfowl. Also, no disposable BBQs on account of the fragile environment and after 3 nights we ask you to re-pitch your tent to save the grass.

Just ring David or Valery on 01479 821642 to check availability.
