Places to Visit

Fond Memories
we share with you in a detailed description of places to visit and days out in Northern Scotland.

Inverness is without doubt is the gateway to The Highlands, with shopping a joy to make, the swirl of the pipes as you meander through old and new only make you more aware of this unique and breathtaking area. The A9 over Kessock Bridge gives immediate access to The Black Isle, why they call it black I have no idea because black it certainly isn't nor is it an island, it's a peninsular about 23 miles long and 8 miles wide, soil here is very black, and it has so many trees that it looks black when viewed from surrounding areas. With gentle rolling hills large areas of it are given over to coniferous forestry the coastline consists largely of long sweeps of shallow bays.

The charming ruins of Urquhart Castle are situated 2 miles from Drumnadrochit on a rocky peninsula on the banks of Loch Ness. After a chequered history, the castle was destroyed in 1692 to prevent it becoming a Jacobite stronghold

There are no large towns on the Black Isle itself. Instead, the southern coastline is punctuated with small picturesque villages.
