Holme Wood Bothy National Trust -
Loweswater
For a really serious outdoor experience, Holme Wood Bothy offers extremely basic accommodation in the most spectacular secluded location just a few metres away from the shore of Loweswater. Be assured that your only neighbours will be friendly woodland animals and hooting owls!
The stone bothy was converted from a fish hatchery hut and provides an ideal base from which small groups can walk and fish.Boating is also possible on Loweswater. NT boats only allowed - vouchers allowing two free half days rowing can be issued, (if available) upon collection of keys
Access to Holme Wood Bothy is via Watergate Farm, a few hundred yards west of Loweswater. The nearest town is Cockermouth in the North Lakes Area, which is approximately 20 minutes' drive away and there's Keswick which is 30 minutes drive away. The easiest route from Keswick is to drive through Whinlatter Pass to Lorton, then follow the signposts

has been used to provide three areas for tents and tourers. One
area is set aside for tourers only (this is further divided into
an area for awnings and a hard standing area).

tents only (this is an area further split by natural screening
giving several smaller areas rather than one large field).
The third gives friends and families
who have a combination of tents and tourers the ability to camp
together.
All tents and tourers have access
to modern showers and toilet blocks equipped with hair dryers
and shaver points. Separate sinks to clean cooking utensils are
also provided. Water taps are located at points close to all
camping areas; you're on holiday why cart the water a couple
of miles.
